Terms of Use

Use the site, take responsibility for your own car, don't republish content wholesale.

Acceptance

Using this site indicates acceptance of these terms. If any clause is unacceptable, stop using the site.

Information is provided as-is

Articles are written in good faith from a mix of first-hand experience, manufacturer reference material, and documented owner reports. They are general information about the Mk3 Scirocco and the VAG platform components it shares. They are not vehicle-specific advice and they are not a substitute for diagnosis by a qualified mechanic on your specific car.

Cars vary by year, market, options, prior service history, and condition. A repair that worked on one Mk3 may not apply to another. Verify part numbers, fitment, and torque specs against the manufacturer reference for your specific VIN before relying on them.

The author is not a qualified mechanic

The author is an enthusiast owner who works on his own vehicle. He is not a certified, registered, or licensed motor vehicle technician. Articles describe what worked for him on his car; they are not professional repair instructions.

Working on vehicles carries risk

Mechanical repair can cause injury, property damage, vehicle damage, fire, or death. Particular care is required for:

  • Brakes — failure can be fatal. Bleeding, hose replacement, caliper work, ABS module work all carry risk.
  • Fuel system — fire and explosion hazard. The TSI runs at high pressure; fuel spray under pressure is a serious injury risk.
  • Airbags / SRS — uncontrolled deployment can cause severe injury. Disconnect the battery and wait per the service procedure.
  • Suspension under load — coil springs store enormous energy. Use proper spring compressors; never improvise.
  • Vehicle on stands — collapse causes crush injury. Use rated stands on a firm, level surface; chock wheels.
  • Electrical (battery, alternator, starter) — short circuits cause burns and fires; high current can spot-weld tools.
  • Cooling system under pressure — never open a hot system; risk of severe scald burns.
  • Engine running — moving belts, hot exhaust, spinning fans, exhaust fumes (CO).

If you are uncertain at any point, stop and consult a qualified mechanic. No article on this site is worth an injury.

No warranty

No express or implied warranty is given as to the accuracy, completeness, fitness for purpose, or currency of anything on this site. Information may be wrong. Information may become out of date. Information may not apply to your vehicle.
